Dr. Shonu Tsering was born in May 1986 in Chhule, Rasuwa District, Nepal, into a Buddhist family practicing the Nyingma tradition.
At the age of eight, he developed a strong interest in medicine and went to Dongak Ling Monastery, led by his uncle. There he spent nearly seven years studying medicine, esoteric rituals, prayers, meditation, philosophy, monastic discipline, and the foundations of Dharma practice.
In 2011, he entered the Sowa Rigpa Institute to study traditional Sowa Rigpa medicine alongside Buddhist studies, with particular emphasis on the teachings of the Yuthok lineage.
During his studies, he mastered traditional diagnostic methods, medicine preparation, therapeutic techniques, and the Buddhist philosophy of healing. In 2016, he was awarded the Kachupa degree and later continued his advanced studies, receiving the Menrampa degree in 2020.
