A Short Biography of His Eminence Khentrul Rabsang Rinpoche

Khentrul Rabsang Rinpoche is the reincarnation of Drubwang Rabsang Rinpoche, who was born into a nomad family in the Traga district of Tibet and was ordained as a monk with the name Konchog Rabsang.

Already in his previous life, from early childhood, Drubwang Rabsang Rinpoche studied the Tibetan language, Buddhist texts and various rituals. Rinpoche received a great number of Empowerments and oral transmissions of the Drikung Kagyu tradition from both heads of the Drikung Kagyu, His Holiness Chungtsang and His Holiness Chetsang Rinpoche. From the retreat master of Drikung Til Monastery, Drubwang Trinley Ösel, Rinpoche received the teachings on the Fivefold Path of Mahamudra and the Six Yogas of Naropa, after which he completed a strict retreat. From his Teacher Tulku Jamyang Wangyal he also received oral transmissions and teachings on the 13 principal texts of Buddhist philosophy, together with the empowerments and transmissions of the Longchen Nyingthig of the Nyingma tradition. Rinpoche practised both systems, Mahamudra and Dzogchen, the Great Perfection, and reached a very high level of realisation. Many spiritual Teachers of that time sought to meet him and received his instructions. When he was over seventy years old, his body shrank greatly in size. And when he was left in the mountains, only his nails and hair were later found at that place, a clear sign that Rinpoche had attained the realisation of the Rainbow Body of Light.

The present reincarnation, Tulku Rabsang Rinpoche, Konchog Tsultrim, was born in 1973, the year of the Water Ox, in the village of Tashi Jong, near Drikung Til Monastery. His father Konchog Tashi and his mother Leisang saw numerous auspicious signs at the time of his birth. From an early age Tulku Rabsang Rinpoche showed great compassion for animals and deep faith in the Dharma, and often asked his parents to let him go to the monastery. One day his parents brought him to His Eminence the great Drubwang Pachung Rinpoche, who told them: “This child has very good merit and virtue. His wisdom will manifest in the future, and one day he will become a fully ordained monk.” Later Pachung Rinpoche himself ordained him.

During his life Rinpoche has completed more than 20 Mani retreats, in Nepal and beyond, each with more than 100 million recitations of the Mani mantra.

At the sacred place of Godavari in Lapchi, on the border of Nepal and Tibet, Rinpoche completed a two-and-a-half-year strict retreat under the close guidance of His Eminence Nubpa Rinpoche.

Rinpoche teaches how to apply meditation in everyday life and shares his experience of how mind training can change life for the better.

Khentrul Rinpoche is known for his deep knowledge of Buddhist philosophy, is a recognised meditation Master and is also known for his extraordinary kindness.

Meeting such a Master in our time is considered a very rare and precious event in life.
